Recapping System Gateway Community Week

It’s been an entire week of community content creators throwing System Gateway spoilers at us in every conceivable format and medium—from cryptic crosswords to guerilla-streaming from inside the super-secure bunkers of NISEI’s playtesting server! But if the hectic schedule and time zone differences have made it difficult for you to follow all the revelations as they happened, keep reading for a handy summary of all the cards, with links to the original content! NetrunnerDB has also been updated with these cards, so you can view all the System Gateway spoilers so far, including their text for screen readers, right here.

The Shadow Net kicked us off on Monday, revealing three economy and draw events (one Anarch, two Shaper), as well as a powerful new multiaccess tool for Shapers. Alongside NISEI Game Development, Art, and Writing team member Zoe Cohen, they also discussed the setting, and the politics of cyberpunk dystopias.

They were followed by SanSan Francisco, who revealed three new Weyland cards and a neutral agenda with very powerful “value Scorch” vibes, as well as giving us a preview of a very useful little Shaper gadget!

The next day, Kitchen Table Netrunner took over, efficiently revealing a quartet of Haas-Bioroid tools during their five-click turn and scoring all the agendas in the meantime!

In true Criminal style, Métropole Grid sneakily bypassed the schedule, revealing their cards in a preview video a full day before a live stream in which they built decks to show them off in action! Or they may have used their Mayfly to do it, as they spoiled no bypass effects…

NISEI lead designer June Cuervo joined The Slumscast for a fascinating behind-the-scenes view of how a set comes together. Oh, and there were some Jinteki spoilers too.

Kicking off the weekend in style, Semi-Coop revealed a new Criminal hardware and a new HB campaign, giving us the credits and accesses we needed to tease out the last few scoops still hidden in NISEI’s centrals!

We haven’t heard from The Winning Agenda since before the pandemic, but they got right back into the swing of things when revealing these three exciting NBN cards (and one neutral agenda), as only 152-episode podcasting veterans can!

Another veteran of thousands of hours of content closed out Sunday, as CodeMarvelous and a few friends greedily pored over the new Anarch virus cards!

But this wasn’t all! Throughout the week, Worlds 2020 top four finalists Limes, tf34, chouxflower, and adumbbrick each spoiled one exclusive card in unique, inventive, and sometimes frustrating ways!

And, lastly, the two neutral tutorial identities from the System Gateway starter decks were revealed in the Green Level Clearance Netrunner Discord and by Drilrunner (warning: NSFW). These are the identity cards you’ll use to learn the game in the System Gateway Starter Pack:

Look forward to the last few cards of System Gateway to be revealed this week, but, in the meantime, we’d like to leave you with an exclusive peek at some of the ancillary materials in the set! Although, as we previously announced, players will need to provide their own counters to play (dice, loose change, or generic counters will all do just fine), both System Gateway and System Update 2021 will contain all the aids a new player will need. We are very pleased to show you the setup guides, tag tracker, and basic action cards for System Gateway!

Tomorrow’s article will begin our three-day look into the ice and icebreakers of System Gateway, starting with barriers and the programs that hate them.

System Gateway and System Update 2021 will be released on or shortly after March 28, 2021, as physical cards via NISEI’s print-on-demand partners and pay-what-you want files for downloading and printing at home!
