Thunder Art Gallery (2018 Art Recap)

Welcome back, oh runners of the net. Today, in our second of four 2018 wrap-up articles we’ll take a look at the art that’s been produced for NISEI this year. This is quite a short article as we’ve only two event kits to look at; come next year we’ll have 4 more GNKs, another Store Championship Kit, our first Regional, National and World Championship prizes AND some art for our own cards to review, so I’ll probably narrow it down to a top 10 as we close out 2019.

We’ve not been sat on our laurels though, as our Art Gurus have also been hard at work on the templates and glyphs. I’m not showing them off today though – you’ll see them soon enough on the cards we put out in the Ashes cycle.

The artist names all link to their sites, if you want to see more stuff by them then click away!

First up is the 2019 Q1 GNK participation prize, Rashida Jaheem by Megan Cannon. A very appropriate name, considering the image involves a tank…

We also have both the gorgeous winners playmat and the top 4 prize, a Titan ID, made for us by Dominique Van Velsen. I’m looking forward to trying to get my hands on these, come January!

Then for the Store Championship 2019 prizes, we have Crowdfunding – made by #artistcolony regular Cat Shen – as the participation prize, and we’ll ALL want 3 of these so better shuffle on over to any local events you have!

The top 4 prize for this event is an Embezzle, as crafted by NISEI’s very own Art Coordinator, Patrick Burk. Getting to watch this be made was very interesting, and I am a big fan of that sky.

Last, but definitely not least, we have a the top 4 playmat by Olie Boldador (who we’ll see more from in Ashes!) featuring mystery protagonist Az… why is this be-goggled person dancing on the fine line between bravery and stupidity to ride on the TOP of a hopper? Where have they come from? Where are they going? WHAT IS EVEN GOING ON?!? Answers I’m sure we’ll reveal, all in due time!

…and that’s a wrap. Normally I’d put some art in here to mark the start of my outro, but that seems a bit superfluous right now. Come back tomorrow to see how some of the stalwarts of the community have found 2018!
